M.D.(Community Medicine)- Stands for Doctor of Medicine in Community Medicine. Typically, M.D.(Community Medicine) is a three year course, minimum eligibility for which is an M.B.B.S with 1 year compulsory internship. Community medicine is a division of medicine that focuses on health of the members of a region, municipality or community. Under this degree, resident doctors receive hands on training for inpatient and outpatient management, ward procedures and community services. During the 3 year period, the student also does research and writes a thesis.a branch of medicine that is concerned with the health of the members of a community, municipality, or region. The emphasis in community medicine is on the early diagnosis of disease, the recognition of environmental and occupational hazards to good health, and the prevention of disease in the community.
