The department of English was established in July, 1978 and offers M.A. and M. Phil. courses. The department is actively engaged in research work leading to a Ph.D. degree in various areas like English literature, American, Indian and Canadian and Comparative literature's. In 1991, the UGC allotted 13 Centers to various Universities in India for Canadian Studies. The department of English was also allotted one Center for Canadian Studies which has been running effectively since then. The Center organizes a National or International Conference/Workshop every year with the financial assistance from Shastri Indo -Canadian Institute, New Delhi, and Indian Association of Canadian Studies and partly from the University. The students of the Department have fared extremely well in various professions including Air Force, Army, Journalism and Teaching. Over the years many students have qualified SET and NET.

=> MA: Second Class Bachelor’s Degree (including concerned subject) with 55% marks and Second Division in the Intermediate Examination or 50% marks in each of the Bachelor’s Degree and Intermediate Examination separately.
=> MPhil: Master’s Degree in the concerned subject with 55% marks. The eligibility conditions regarding Bachelor’s Degree and Intermediate Examination are the same as for admission to the MA programme.
it is a matter of pride that almost all our students and research scholars are employed as Lecturers, Readers and Professors in various colleges and universities of the country and abroad after completing their PhDs and also qualifying NET/SLET. They are also engaged in teaching Business and Communicative English at various Engineering Colleges of the country.
