The department of Economics was established in 1977 with the objective of promoting post-graduate studies and research in Economics with special thrust on emerging areas in theoretical and applied Economics. The Department of Economics with its team of well- qualified and experienced teachers provides a thorough and in depth training in theoretical and applied economics through its various courses of study. The main objective is to develop skilled manpower capable of analyzing economic problems at different levels of sophistication and suggesting solutions in terms of policy.
=> M.A. Economics
=> M.Phil. Economics
=> Ph.D. Economics
=> M.A. (Economics) Programme : Second class Bachelor’s Degree (including concerned subject) with 55% marks and second division in intermediate Examination or 50% in each of the Bachelor’s Degree and intermediate Examination, separately. For admission to M.A. (Economics), candidates having B.A./B.Sc. degree with Mathematics as one of the main subjects at 10+2 or graduation level or those with B.B.A./B.Com./B.C.A. degree are also eligible.
=> M.Phil. (Economics) Programme : Master’s Degree in concerned subject with 55% marks. The eligibility conditions regarding Bachelor’s degree and Intermediate Examinations are same as for admission to M.A. programmes.
Number of students have been appointed as Lecturers in University and colleges in different parts of the country.
=> Placement in Institutions of National repute: Professor at IIT, Roorkee
=> Placement in other Universities like, Lucknow, Garhwal (Srinagar)
=> Placement at International Organisations: UNDP
=> Placement in Multinational Corporations: Pepsi, Tetrapak, etc.
