Course Details:

Bachelor of Science (BSc Perfusion Technology) is an undergraduate Bioscience course. Perfusion is defined as those functions necessary for the support, treatment, measurement, or supplementation of the cardiopulmonary and circulatory system of the patient. Course involves the study of physiology, pathology and associated equipment used to support and or assume the function of the heart and or lungs during medical procedures. The perfusion technologist prepares and operates the heart-lung machine and other sophisticated equipment as directed by healthcare physicians. The Perfusionist utilizes technology such as heart/ lung machines, ventricular assist devices and artificial hearts, as well as pharmacological interventions to maintain the patient during the period of circulatory support.

This degree in perfusion technology will teach and prepare students for assisting competently the Anesthetists and Surgeons during normal to high tech anesthesia and surgical operations in hospitals and large healthcare multispecialty clinics. After some work-experience and further higher studies they can serve the healthcare sector of India or abroad as Perfusion Technicians/Technologists, Cardiac Perfusionists, Teachers & Lecturers, Perfusionists, Medical Case Review Physicians, Pediatric Cardiologists, and so on. Perfusion supports and heals the cardiopulmonary and circulatory systems of the concerned patients; and therefore, a perfusion technician is essentially required to know all about preparation, operation, and maintenance of heart and lung machines, ventricular assist devices, artificial hearts, and other sophisticated instruments and equipments as directed by healthcare physicians/ surgeons/anesthetists.
