The merchant Navy offers excellent opportunities for those willing to go out to sea, are physically fit and have good eye sight without glasses. By entering the deck side and after completion of exams progressively one eventually attains the rank of captain or Master which in any case takes 6 to 8 years after passing out of AMET. Salaries at sea are of the highest in the service sector and additionally enjoy all tax benefits as applicable to non resident Indians as per current regulations. A large number of shore jobs as pilots, surveyors, instructors, superintendents, port captains are available for those not desirous of serving at sea long.
The first objective is therefore to gain entry into AMET for the following courses which this Department offers.
