Department of Library and Information Science

Library and Information Science (LIS) is a professional education aimed to develop the students with adequate knowledge and skills relating to the tools and techniques of information handling. The Department of Library and Information Science was formally inaugurated with a one-year Post-Graduate Course leading to the Degree of Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) on 29-04-1992. The Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) course was introduced from the academic session 1999-2000. The Ph.D. programme forms an integral part of departmental research activities.

Mission

To produce high-quality students who will have a good grasp of the principles of library and information science and of the professional practices derived from them, and be eagerly sought by employers both at home and abroad across a broad range of activities in the traditional and emerging sectors.
