The Department of Vegetable Crops, Landscaping was established in 1974. It was raised to status of an independent department in1995 when it was bifurcated from the former . The department has made commendable contribution in improving the economy of vegetable growers of the country in general and the state in particular. Till date, the department has developed 105 improved varieties and hybrids of vegetable crops and out of these 28 varieties have been identified at national level. Recommendation of weed control, nutritional requirements, protected cultivation under nethouse, multiple cropping system and forcing techniques in different vegetables have been made.
