Department of Chemistry, established in 1965 as “Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry”, infuses a 45-year tradition of excellence with a distinctly non-traditional approach to graduate and undergraduate education. Using multi-disciplinary study and research, our philosophy is to craft individualized programs for students, enabling them to acquire new knowledge through strong mentoring and outstanding intellectual and physical resources. By building both strong interpersonal connections between our students and faculty of national and international repute, the entering students can thrive at the frontiers of research in the chemical sciences.
Currently the department offers both M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes in chemistry with specialization in organic , inorganic and physical chemistry. Due to high quality of training imparted by the College, quite a large number of the post graduates of the College have been picked up by National/International organizations and are presently occupying prestigious positions in these various organizations.
The Department has well equipped laboratories for carrying out practicals and research. The department has sophisticated instruments like LC-MS/MS, UV visible spectrophotometer, FT-IR Spectrophotometer, Microwave Ovens,. The Departmental Library caters to the needs of students as well as the teachers. The department has published research papers in journals of National and International repute besides publishing books. Science in the 21st century is rich with opportunity and challenge. Our pillars for success in this complex world are all tied to interactions between people, and between disciplines.
