Recognizing the increasing application of epidemiology and health management in health care delivery process, and its increasing relevance to the Brain – Mind – Behavior axis, the Department of Epidemiology was established at NIMHANS during 1987. The aim of the Department is to
develop scientific data in the area of various mental - neurological disorders and injuries,increase applications of epidemiology in health policy and planning,disseminate information to planners, professionals, administrators and society,promote interventions in a cost effective and sustainable manner based on scientific information.
To improve health of communities and to empower and build capacities of policy makers, programme managers, health care providers, media and civil society regarding the challenges of management of mental - neurological problems and injuries by developing an evidence basis for policies and programmes and to ascertain the effectiveness.
