The Department of Biophysics is offering two post graduate programs leading to M.Phil. and Ph.D. degree. The duration of the M.Phil. (Biophysics) course is two years with a provision to admit two students every year. Both M.Phil. and Ph.D. programs are open for students with M.Sc Dgree (Physical / Life Sciences), MBBS and BE. The department also provides the short-term training in Biophysics to students from other Institutions. Please see: [Prospectus] for Course details.
The aim of the research is to contribute towards the understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the normal finctioning and pathology of brain. The investigators in the Department are working in the ares of the basic neuroscience and also collaborating with the clinical Departments in the institute. The broad areas of research are cellular signal transduction, membrane struture - function, ion channels and molecular mechanism underlying neurodegenerative disorders. The study on signal transduction in brain at molecular and cellular levels is the priority area.
