Department of Mechanical Sciences

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has been one of the core branches, which was started right at the inception of the Karunya University in 1986. The department thrives on technical and professional excellence and as on date, it has matured into a pillar of strength for the Karunya University. In order to raise skilled professionals and to meet the manpower of the rapidly growing Industrial base and infrastructure of our country, the department is offering undergraduate courses in Mechanical Engineering, Post Graduate Diploma programmes in Advanced Manufacturing and Petroleum and Natural gases flow measurement and Instrumentation and Post graduate courses in the thrust areas of Thermal Science, Manufacturing and Engineering Design.

The research activities of the department are carried out with the aim of providing benefits and betterment for humanity. The department conducts research with consistent supervision which results in learning and application of recent technologies leading to innovative inventions and patents. Several research scholars from India and abroad are pursuing research and development in thrust areas of Thermal Sciences, Manufacturing and Materials, and Engineering Design.

Our degrees are designed to be relevant to the real world of industry and the needs of today's engineers. Teaching is underpinned by up-to-date laboratory and computing facilities. The department has up-to date facilities for conducting experiments to complement the theory taught in lectures. These facilities are also used by the faculty to do research in their respective specializations. The laboratories are well equipped with modern equipment under the supervision of qualified technical support staff. Equipment in the various laboratories trains the students to expose practical knowledge and illustrate the most important concepts in mechanical engineering.
