The Department of Bioinformatics , the young and energetic department of Karunya University, had its beginnings in the year 2005 with a 4-year B.Tech program and two year M.Tech program in Bioinformatics. This young and academically-active department has won many laurels to its credit in a span of nine years. Out of 10 faculty members in the department, three have doctoral degrees with diversified research expertise. They have been trained in premier institutions in India and abroad and a few of them have held senior positions in bioinformatics and pharmaceutical companies.

The thrust area of research mainly emphasizes on health care which is focused on Genomics and Proteomics, Bioprogramming and Algorithm development, Structural Bioinformatics and Molecular modeling & Cheminformatics.
Training Programmes are conducted for Career Planning & Development, Aptitude skills, Technical Test, Job interview and Total Personality Development Programme. The students are encouraged to participate in symposia and workshops besides pursuing their academic activities.
Our students are placed in Infosys, Accenture, Zifo Technology, Aetitea Life Sciences, Clinical research consortium, Novartis, Tara International, Wipro, TCS, Accenture etc. Few outstanding students have received multiple placements in more than one companies. Our students have also joined higher studies in abroad. Two s tudents have completed their internship abroad as part of IAESTE ( International Association for exchange of students of Technical Education) Program
