Department of Fuel and Mineral Engineering
Date/Year of commissioning: 25th August, 1976. The Department of Fuel and Mineral Engineering is actively engaged in teaching and research activities. The department has the distinction of launching the B Tech Programme in Mineral Engineering, the first such course in India. It is also involved in solving live industrial problems and serves the manpower development besides catering to the needs of the industry by way of continuing education programmes for the practicing engineers. It is well-equipped laboratories for academic and research activities.
The subject Mineral Engineering deals with the beneficiation and handling of ores, minerals and coal. India being a mineral rich country, there is a great demand for the Mineral Engineering both within and outside the country. Presently the department is offering the following courses:
Undergraduate Programme
A 4-year B. Tech programme in Mineral Engineering is being offered by the department since 1984, through a grant of about Rs 4.19 crores from the GOI Department of Mines. This program has a multifaceted orientation with a fine blend of Core subjects. More information on the course content of the subject is given in Academic Programmes described below.
Beside these programmes it has also offered two new M.Tech programmes in Bio-Mineral Processing and Clean Coal and Energy Technology from 2006 -07.
