The University is the brain child of Padmashree Dr. Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao a legendary figure and Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences had its beginning as Nizam's Orthopedic Hospital established by the Nizam's Charitable Trust on 22.12.64 to treat Orthopaedic patients.
