The University is the brain child of Padmashree Dr. Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao a legendary figure and Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. It was inaugurated in 1986.The first chancellor of the university was none other than Late Dr. N.T.Ramarao . Presently, the Hon’ble Governor of Andhra Pradesh is the Chancellor. It is a state university established with act NO .6 of Andhra Pradesh Legislative assembly in 1986 . This Act may be called the AP University of Health Sciences Act, 1986.
