Department of Economics
The Department of Economics is amongst the younger of the Departments in the University, but it has made a qualitative contribution to research and Post Graduate education in economics since its initiation. The Department was established in 1985 and Professor V S R Rao was the first Head of the Department – an expert in Monetary Economics and Finance. Professor S V Bokil headed the Department next; his area of research was International Economics. Professor Dhanmanjiri Sathe- who was the Head of the Department next - specializes in the Political Economy of Development. Presently, Professor Rohini Sahni is the Head; her areas of research are Development Economics, International Economics and Gender.
