Department of genetics was established in 1969 and has been pursuing basic and applied research in frontier areas of Genetics that has direct/indirect bearing on human health. The research areas include clinical cytogenetics, molecular genetics and biology of communication and cardiovascular disorders, infertility, mental retardation and cancer, pharmacogenomics, microbial genetics and evaluation of genotoxicity. The department offers consultancy services on molecular diagnostics, clinical cytogenetics, genetic counseling and genotoxicity
