About University of Hyderabad

The University of Hyderabad (UOH) was founded in the year 1974. The university was established along the lines of the Six-Point Formula of 1973. The first Vice-Chancellor of the University was Banaras Hindu University organic chemist Gurbaksh Singh, from 1974 to 1979. Shri B D Jatti was the first Chancellor of the University. In January 2015, the University of Hyderabad received the Visitor’s Award for the Best Central University in India, awarded by the President of India.

The university is located in Gachibowli, on 2300-odd acres. The campus is rich in flora and fauna, home to over 734 flower plants, ten species of mammals, fifteen species of reptiles, and 159 species of birds.

The University offers Integrated M.Sc, M.A, MSc, M.F.A, M.Tech, M.B.A, M.C.A, M.Phil and Ph.D degrees. UoH conducts its own entrance examinations for all courses during the month of February each year and interviews in the month of May annually. The University has been recognised by University Grants Commission as a "University of Excellence". The University ranks amongst the top ten Universities in the country. It has been re-accredited with the highest grade of A and a CGPA of 3.72/4.00 by NAAC (in its third cycle) in 2014.

A large number of Institutions find their home on our campus, and we have close academic links with them. These include the C R Rao Advanced Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science (AIMSCS), the Association of Management Development Institutions of South Asia (AMDISA), the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), The Energy Resources Institute (TERI), the National Institute for Smart Government (NISG), the National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB) and the Indian Institute of Public Health (IIPH) and the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS). The National Museum of Statistics, SANKHYA, is being set up on the campus, the first of its kind.
