Department of Mechanical Engineering The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 1956 with the inception of the Institute to cater to undergraduate education in the field of Mechanical Engineering. It aims to produce quality professionals in Mechanical Engineering to compete globally and excel by carrying out basic and applied research in emerging areas by forging strong industry-institute interaction. Since the Institute became a deemed university in 1985 the department has increasingly focused on post graduate education and research.

The Department of Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering has been playing a vital role in producing scientists and technologists of highest caliber ever since it was established in the year 1956. The department runs two undergraduate programs, three post-graduate programs and Ph.D. program to cater to the ever challenging needs of technical excellence in all areas of electrical engineering. Department of Chemical Engineering
The Department of Chemical Engineering of Thapar University was established in 1992 with the Ph.D programme. The department is one of its kind in the region, which provides not only quality under-graduate education, but also an excellent research environment through its Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral programmes. The Department has an excellent ensemble of dynamic, goal oriented, highly qualified and experienced faculty members from diverse streams and specializations.

Department of Biotechnology & Environmental Sciences
Biotechnology at Thapar Technology Campus was initiated in 1993 with Ph.D program and was subsequently supported by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India to start M.Sc. Biotechnology program in 1999. B.Tech. program was started in 2003 followed by M.Sc. Microbiology and M. Tech Biotechnology in 2011 and 2012 respectively. B.Tech Biochemical Engineering is being initiated from July 2014 with the support from Department of Chemical Engineering.
