The department was started in 1997 as the Department of Electronics under the School of Science and Technology. The department was renamed as Electronics and Communication Engineering under the School of Engineering in 2006. The primary objective of the department is to impart quality education, training and research at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels in frontline areas of electronics and its derived Engineering and Technology.
The major areas of faculty expertise of the department include Communications, DSP, Biomedical Signal Processing, Bio-Sensors, MEMS, Instrumentation, Image Processing and Computer Vision. The department offers the following degrees: B. Tech. (in Electronics and Communication Engineering), M. Tech. ( in two specializations: Electronics Design & Technology and Bioelectronics) and Ph.D. (in various specialization areas of faculty expertise as mentioned above).
