Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Students need to be prepared to bring new life into the world, regardless of their specialty. The obstetric team handles antenatal and gynaecological cases, including normal deliveries and caesarean section. It also handles all obstetric and gynaecological emergencies round the clock. Standing alongside a full-fledged team comprising of a duty obstetrician, a junior resident and well-trained staff nurses, students gain a flair in taking care of deliveries including caesarean sections and other emergencies.

Research :
Faculty members never miss an opportunity to submit scientific papers, on the research that is being done, at national level conferences. For instance, Dr. M. Nirmala, assistant professor of obstetrics and gynaecology, presented papers in AICOG 2007 and ISOPARB 2007.
Curriculum :
The undergraduate program imparts medical students with a base in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology. The curriculum has a fine balance of lecture classes, clinical case demonstrations, discussions, tutorials and practical classes.
Clinics and Facilities :
The department has both inpatient and outpatient clinics. While the outpatient clinic takes care of nearly 1700 cases a month, the inpatient care sees 170-190 cases a month.
The outpatient clinic handles regular antenatal, gyanecological and infertility patients. Patients are screened for cancer with pap smears and colposcopy directed biopsies.
