Department of Microbiology
The department of Microbiology was established in the year 1981 as the first department in the entire state to impart advance teaching in this area with strong research/development backup. During the past two decades, this department has contributed significantly in the area of microbial diversity and biofertilization, mushroom biology and technology through various programmes funded by DBT, ICAR, NHB (Govt. of India). The department has a good collection of microbial germplasm – Cyanobacteria, Azospirillum, Azotobacter, Bacillus, Pleurotus, Agaricus, Tricholoma etc.

Department of Agril Biotechnology and Molecular Biology
Students under Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India quota are admitted in the PG programme through JNU competitive test conducted on all India basis. Seats under RAU quota are filled up through entrance test conducted by RAU, Pusa Bihar. Infrastructure Molecular Biology Lab.-1

Under such situations, it is imperative to minimize the farmers’ risk through better utilization of natural resources. Agroforestry interventions in farmland have far reaching environmental and ecological impacts. The role of agroforestry in soil conservation, bio-amelioration and climate moderation is most widely acclaimed and one of the compelling reasons for including trees on farm lands.

Department of Extension Education
Extension Education as a discipline owes its origin to Bihar. The department has produced many eminent scientists in the field of extension education. The four Vice-chancellors are alumnae of this department. Infrastructure The Department has the following facilities- equipped modern equipments and aids – for effective teaching, training and research. The department has audio visual lab. and departmental library with a sizeable collection of thesis for use by the students and teachers of the department.

Department of Nematology
The teaching programme of the department was combined with two other sister departments namely Plant Pathology and Entomology. After few years, a need was felt to have a full-fledged department of Nematology at University to have a better coordination between teaching and research, as a result a post graduate department of Nematology was established in 1982 with Dr. R.P Nathan as its first professor and Head.

Department of Entomology
The department of Entomology was established mainly to teachEcology-lab entomology to undergraduate students. Since inception of the University, it became a separate unit in the Faculty of Agriculture at Pusa Campus of Rajendra Agricultural University with an objective of achieving excellence in teaching entomology to postgraduate students, conducting problem oriented research on insect pests of agricultural importance, and extending latest technology development to farmers.

The Post graduate department of Plant Pathology, RAU, Pusa under the university was established in the year, 1970 with intake capacity of six students in Master degree programme and two students under Ph. D. Programme.

Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics
Department of Plant Breeding & Genetics was established since inception of university with major thrust area to develop high yielding, disease resistant varieties of cereal, pulse, oilseed and other crops with better grain quality. Once the variety is released, its popularization and adoption among the farmers is the most important things for which the department conducts FLDs, organize Kisan Mela and our Scientists deliver lecture on their concerned crop and Subject on TV & Radio.

Department of Soil Science
The Department of Soil Science owes its origin to Imperial Agricultural Research Institute established at Pusa, Bihar in 1905. Workers like Dr. J. W. Leather “considered father of Indian Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry” sowed the seed for the research in the field of soil science at Pusa. After the establishment of Rajendra Agricultural University in 1970, the post graduate studies in Soil Science started with a full fledged laboratory and staff. Stalwarts like Prof. S. C. Mandal, Dr. K. K. Jha, Dr. P. P. Jha, Dr. M.K. Sinha and others gave the present shape to the Department.

The post- graduate teaching in Agricultural Economics started in year 1962 at Ranchi Agricultural College, Kanke, Ranchi with one Professor and one Assistant Professor and first batch of students passed out in 1963-64.

Department of Agronomy
The Department of Agronomy came into existence as one of the seven departments at the time of establishment of the Rajendra Agricultural University in the year 1972. It played a pivotal role in providing linkage to allied departments and constituent colleges of the University. The department has excellent infrastructure of well-equipped laboratories and research farm. These are well supported by technical and field staff for proper conduction of research as well as farm practical of undergraduate students, both by faculty and post graduate students.
