Department of History & Ethnography

The department was established in July, 2002 as one of the five new post-graduate departments in the university. The department started functioning effectively from 22nd July, 2002.

During the year under report(2011-2012), one of the major highlights of the department was the formulation of the new Under Graduate syllabus to suit the semester system to be introduced in the Colleges from 2011 onwards. The Department formed a core committee to look after the matter with faculty members convening numerous meetings with college teachers. The excercise resulted in some of the old papers being restrutured and new ones introduced for the first time(such as Political History of Mizoram and Historiography). Faculty members' activities also included attendance at seminars and conferences at the local, national, and international level. A number of articles were also published in journals and edited works. Pre- Ph.D classes/course work also currently conducted.

The Department also received one of the largest number of admission applications since 2002.
