The Department of Economics, Mizoram University was started in 1979 under NEHU, Mizoram Campus, with one Lecturer. The student intake capacity was raised from 20 to 50 in 1996. This was later reduced to 40 again with the starting of Mizoram University in July 2001. There has been a marked improvement of late, in the performance and the percentage of successful students including Ph.D. scholars, of the Department.
