Admission Notices

    Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur is one of the thirty National Institutes of Technology in the country. The Govt. of India conferred on the Institute, the Deemed to be University status (under University Grants Commission Act, 1956 (3 of 1956)) with effect from 26th June 2002. Subsequently, the Central Govt. by Act of Parliament (National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007 (29 of 2007)) declared VNIT Nagpur as an Institute of National Importance along with all other NITs. The Act was brought into force from 15th August 2007. Earlier, the Institute was known as Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering (VRCE). It was established in the year 1960 under the scheme sponsored by Govt. of India and Govt. of Maharashtra. The college was started in June 1960 by amalgamating the State Govt. Engineering College functioning at Nagpur since July 1956. In the meeting held in October 1962, the Governing Board of the College resolved to name it after the eminent engineer, planner, and statesman of the country Sir M.Visvesvaraya.

Odd semester runs between July to Nov and Even semester between Dec to April. Evaluation is credit based grade point system on a ten point scale. Students are awarded grades and not marks for their performance in courses registered. Division / percentage of marks are not awarded in grading system. Institute observes practice of continuous evaluation for all courses. Only lecture (L) type of courses have end semester examination in addition to continuous evaluation. Evaluation of lecture type of courses is based on the performance in continuous evaluation and end semester examination taken together. In case of failure, re-examination within two weeks is permitted for end semester component only. There is no re-examination for other type of courses. Students who fails (i.e. awarded FF grade) are required to repeat the course.

Reservation of Seats is as per Govt. of India rules. In addition to above, up to 5 seats in each program (except Environmental Engg) are available for Sponsored candidates. For admission under Sponsored seats quota, the candidate must have post-degree two years full time experience in relevant field in which admission is being sought and sponsorship certificate from the organization in which he /she is working. Details of admission procedure and other are given in information brochure separately notified every year during the month of June.

    Admission procedure to M Tech program

    Admission to M Tech programs are done through GATE qualified candidates. Candidates (GATE qualified) selected under stipendiary seats quota are given GATE scholarship as per norms. Reservation of Seats is as per Govt. of India rules. In addition to above, up to 5 seats in each program (except Environmental Engg) are available for Sponsored candidates. For admission under Sponsored seats quota, the candidate must have post-degree two years full time experience in relevant field in which admission is being sought and sponsorship certificate from the organization in which he /she is working.
