Department of Physics
The Department of Physics at IIST offers several courses that constitute the core of the B. Tech Programme in Physical Sciences. We also have a Ph. D. Programme in the frontier areas of Experimental and Theoretical Physics. A Masters Programme in Adaptive optics, catering to specific goals of ISRO, will be offered soon.
The department has eight faculty members and four Ph. D. students. Research in the department is organized into four areas: Applied & Adaptive Optics, Laser Physics & Photonics, Atomic & Molecular Physics and Theoretical Physics. The Institute has planned outlays for several sophisticated facilities, especially in Laser & Applied Optics and Atomic & Molecular Physics.
