Division of High Voltage

 

The Division of High Voltage Engineering in School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering was created in the year 1960 and the Post Graduate course was offered in High Voltage Engineering in 1964. On roll about 25 postgraduate students and 11 Ph.D scholars are in the Division of High Voltage Engineering. The Postgraduate course in High Voltage engineering has been awarded “ A ” grade by National Board of Accreditation.

The major areas of research in high voltage engineering are Design of high voltage power apparatus,Estimation of Electrical field strength in power apparatus, Development of methods of detecting faults during impulse voltage testing, estimation of over voltage power apparatus, study of Micro-arrays and development of Gene chips .

The major equipment available in the laboratory are 1540 kV Impulse Voltage Generator, 12kv Impulse Generator, 450 kV Cascaded Transformer, Partial Discharge Detector, 420 kV HVDC generator,Mavowatt 45 Energy Analyzer Kit, Earth Resistance Tester, Insulation Resistance Tester, High Voltage Schering Bridge and digital measuring devices like 12 bit VXI based data acquisition system and digital storage oscilloscope are used extensively.
