Department of production engineering

 

The mission of our department is to develop technically competent, socially committed and disciplined manufacturing engineers with creative ability, innovative thinking and managerial skill to manufacture quality products for the benefit of the mankind.

This department started with three year B.Tech production engineering programme (for B.Sc graduates) in the year 1977 with an intake of 20 students and M.E programme in the year 1993. The dept offers B.Tech in Production Engg & ME in manufacturing Engg, Mechatornics Engg. It also offers part time UG programs in the areas of Mechanical Engg, Production Engg & PG programme in Manufacturing Engineering . For the first time in our country a PG programme in M.E Mechatronics was started in the year 1999 with an intake of 15 students.

Facilities :

The Metallurgy Laboratory is equipped with infrastructure to provide complete information about the metallurgical changes that occur in a metal during its processing and heat treatment. It has equipments to analyze the sand characteristics to be used for casting,and also advanced image processing units to evaluate the metals.

=> Development of Squeeze casting and Liquid Infiltration techniques
=> Friction factor studies on micro components
=> Dynamic control of superplastic forming
=> Superplastic studies on friction stir processed materials
=> Development of Honeycomb sandwich composites
=> Friction stir welding studies on dissimilar metals
=> Development brake liner material
=> Evaluation of Creep and Residual Stress behaviour of weldments and cryogenic treated materials
=> Construction of Forming Limit Diagram
=> Development and machinability studies on Coated tools
=> Dynamic material modeling on Machining of MMC
