Department of Education

The Department of Education established in 1986 has been serving the major objectives of higher education such as teaching, research, extension and publication activities providing equitable access to all social and economic categories of the immediate community. While serving as a classic example of inclusive higher education, the Department has been striving to maintain quality adopting national priorities.

Teaching :

Headed by Dr.P.Prema, a double gold medalist at both the P.G.levels and with 34 years of experience, the team executes excellent work with the cooperation of Dr.R.Krishnaraj, Professor with 24 years of experience who is also the Head - in - charge of Department of Life Long Learning, Dr.P.Paul Devanesan, Associate Professor, a gold medalist at M.Phil. Level with 20 years of experience and an alumnus of Department of Education and Dr.A.Selvan, Assistant Professor with 10 years of teaching experience, an alumnus of the Department and Mr.R.Ramnath, Assistant Professor with 4 years of experience who is an alumnus of the Alagappa University College of Education. The teaching staff are recipients of several prestigious awards and recognitions. The Department runs 4 full-time programmes [M.Ed., M.Phil., PGTEd., Ph.D(Full-Time)] in addition to Part-Time Ph.D. programme.

Research :

Since its inception, this Department has produced 201 Ph.D.’s and has carried out 48 research projects funded by ICSSR, MHRD, NCERT-ERIC, UGC, CBCRD, MSJ, SPD, BvLF, The Netherlands, NLMA generating an amount to the tune of Rs.75,85,386 lakhs. M.Ed., M.Phil. and Ph.D. researches done in socially significant problems are of excellent quality with useful policy recommendations worth implementing. Thus this Department is one of the strongest of its kind in Tamil Nadu.
As the faculty members of the Department are master trainers, they employ all innovative and nontraditional approaches to teaching and training. Through extension programmes and publication activities, the Department disseminates findings of all its research studies.
