Alagappa University at Karaikudi was started in the year 1985 with Department of Physics and along with other twelve departments and two constituent colleges. In a short span of time, the Department of Physics has established as Centre of Excellence in research. Since its inception, the Department has also strong commitment towards teaching programmes at the postgraduate level (M.Sc., and M.Phil.,) and research programmes at doctoral level (Full time and Part time) Thrust area research programmes on thin film semiconductor for solar cells, layered compound semiconductor for photoelectrochemical solar cells and high temperature lubricant, oxide thin film materials for smart materials and MEMS, organic conducting polymers for rechargeable batteries, semiconductor single crystal growth through melt technique, organic and organic- NLO materials are also being pursued intensively.
