RISHI BANKIM CHANDRA EVENING COLLEGE is the renamed Evening Section of the erstwhile Rishi Bankim Chandra College, named after the Great Literateur Rishi Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay who composed inter alia, the hymn, "Bande Mataram," later to become India's National Song. The College is situated near his birthplace, Kantalpara, Naihati and caters to the students of a vast hinterland spread over North 24 Parganas as also of adjoining districts of Nadia and Hooghly. Rishi Bankim Chandra College was founded as an Evening College in 1947 and was housed in Naihati Mohendra School building on the western side of the Railway track. The College was shifted to this present location at Kantalpara on the eastern side of the track the next year (June, 1948), when the Day Section of the College started. The Morning Section exclusively for girls was added to it in 1964. In short, Rishi Bankim Chandra Evening College, though registered after trifurcation in 1984, with the word 'Evening' in its new name, was really founded in 1947.
RISHI BANKIM CHANDA EVENING COLLEGE is a Govt aided institution of graduate studies, affiliated to the University of Calcutta and enjoying accreditation by NAAC. The College Offers courses in B.A., B.Com., and B.Sc. Named after the celebrated literature Rishi Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyaya and situated close to his birth place , the college caters to the needs of the districts of North 24 Parganas and adjoining Nadia and Hoogly. As a center of the higher studies RBCEC acts both as an up holder of academic values and contributor towards social and economic empowerment of the young people in the neighbourhood. By imparting graduate education in Arts, Commerce and Science, the College has proved its enduring concern for society at large for over fifty years. The College now has plans to embark on extension programmes, construct a new five-storey building and add excellence to the existing machinery.
HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE
The College was originally founded in 1947 by some noted educationists of the neighbourhood. It was houses then in Naihati Mahendra School building and as classes were held in evening hours, had the name Rishi Bankim Chandra College (Evening). In the following years Day Section and Morning Section of the College were added. Thus, the then Rishi Bankim Chandra College was born and within a very short span of time. It drew the acclaim and attention of the public and academics of note. Following in on the trifurcation in the year 1984 of the parent body for dministrative purpose, the present Rishi Bankim Chandra Evening College emerged as a full- fledged independent unit. In addition to imparting University affiliated courses at graduated level, the College has an immediate plan for introduction of career advancement courses in partnership with efficient private entrepreneurs of different disciplines.
The Logo of the College has the year 1947 in into indicate the year of foundation in which the undivided college was started in evening time later in 1984 to become Rishi Bankim Chandra Evening College. The seven-leaf Deodar bough in the Logo symbolises the ‘Saptaparni' traditionally offered to successful student with the conferring of degree by traditional Indian Viswa Vidyalaya.

The college is open for admission to both male and female students in graduate courses. Selection for admission is based on school leaving academic records and counseling. Applications are received in prescribed forms, which are supplied by the College Office on production of Mark Sheet and requisite fees. Forms are issued after the publication of results of WBCHSE Examination. Admissions of migrating students are provisional, subject to the production of migration certificate. Concessions for admission to SC/ST/OBC students are allowable as per University guidelines. Provision for financial assistant to needy students is made under students' Welfare Fund and student s' aid Fund.
The University guidelines for attendance in classes, college tests and University Examinations are mandatory for all students. Students are expected to maintain the discipline of the college on and off the college campus and encouraged to participate in college extra- curricular activities, as sports, annual fests etc.
