Taki Government College had first opened its doors for the students on 15th September, 1950. The college has traversed a long way ever since. Located on the banks of the river ICHHAMATI, the prestigious college has acquired a place of its own in constructing and defining the destiny of students down the years. Surrounded by lass greenery the college is composed of a science and an arts building. There is also an annexure building for the department of Geography. The college has witnessed pages of history unfolding itself as it stands as a proud repository tradition, culture and heritage.The total student strength is about 2500 in different courses of studies. The college runs in two section, Morning and Day section. The B.A General (Pass) courses are held in the Morning at 7.45 am. The Advanced (Honours) courses in Arts and Science along with Post-graduate course in Bengali are held during Day section at 10.30 am.

The perception that goes around along the banks of Ichhamoti and encircling Taki, is that the Taki Government College is a phenomenon manifesting itself in various characteristic attires such as heritage, excellence, dynamism, learning, leadership, inspiration, self-determination and so on so forth.

The phenomenon Taki Government College started its journey into the educational arena of West Bengal on 15th September 1950. Since then the College has traversed a long way accumulating optimistic ingredients in its stature to arrive at its present momentous state. Located a few steps away from the banks of the river Ichhamoti, the College is fulfilling the educational needs of a large section of students belonging to the vast adjoining areas with ever increasing sense of commitment. Taki is well connected both by railways and by roadways. Nearest railway station from the College is Taki Road Station in the Sealdah-Hasnabad section.

Academics of the College is conveniently spread in three parts of the main campus, the Main Building, Annex Building and the Geography-cum-playground enclave. Main building hosts the office of the Principal and most of the academic departments. Students' Union Room and the college Canteen are located within the main building enclosure. Over the years, the College has been gaining momentum in upholding its pledge towards inclusive education and thus maintaining sustenance of tradition, culture and heritage inherent to the State of its positioning.

The full time Teachers of the college are appointed by the Government of West Bengal under the cadres of West Bengal Educational Service (W.B.E.S) and West Bengal Senior Education Service (W.B.S.E.S), as per the norms promulgated by the University Grants Commission. The Teachers are liable to be transferred to different Government Colleges as per W.B.E.S & W.B.S.E.S stipulations. The Government of West Bengal also appoints support staff required to be posted in various sections of the college. A considerable number of part-time teachers are also engaged to shoulder academic and otherwise responsibilities. Retired teachers are sometimes assigned to undertake teaching as guest lecturer.

The Education Directorate and the Higher Education Department of the Government of West Bengal, are the immediate controlling authority of the College administration and frame the dynamic policies as well as functional modalities of the College that are carried through and implemented by the Principal of the College. A Governing Body is at the centrestage of the College Administration. The present Governing Body is headed by the Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) who acts as its president with the Principal of the College being the Member Secretary. The College boasts of having a well set Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) which is an essential stipulation of UGC, India.

Vision
Every institution has certain 'inclusive' specificities which mark its 'exclusive' commitment and contribution to the Indian nationhood. Taki Government College was established at a critical juncture after independence with the vision to educate the uprooted young men and women along with the underprivileged of the surrounding region, to amalgamate them into the main stream of the society, to make them socially responsible citizens by inculcating human values and to prepare them for getting established as flourishingly productive human resources in service and employment. With all these, the Institution envisages that the students educated by its abundance become self-reliant, develop leadership qualities and contribute to the nation building in course of their prospective timeline.

Mission
The College remains devoted to create the pervading environment conducive for total academic growth of all the students hailing from different socio-economic and cultural background and hence its efforts to make available all possible support for the weaker sections to enshrine the ethos of inclusive education. The College strives for an ever stretching infrastructural built including addition of contemporary equipments in the laboratories and adapting increasingly to ICT teaching and learning for all out development of the students.
