About Tripura Engineering College

The College was established in 1965 with the three traditional branches of Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. It was initially affiliated to Calcutta University and had the same curriculum structure and examination system as par with Bengal Engineering College, the other institute affiliated to the University. After the establishment of Tripura University, the college was affiliated to the new University. The college is approved by AICTE. From the year 1999-2000 academic session a new four-year degree level course in Computer Science & Engineering has been started. Presently the intake of each branch is increased by 4 (four) no. of seats for Lateral entry candidates (Diploma Level) to second year of under Graduate curriculum.The college is administered by Education Department, Government of Tripura through the Directorate of Higher Education. There is a Planning and Monitoring Board, constituted as per AICTE norms to look-after the development programmes of the College. The governing body of the college under the Chairmanship of Hon’ble Education Minister, Government of Tripura is responsible for policy planning and implementation.

The college has recently been identified as a Centre of Excellence by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. Very optimistic development programmes have recently been undertaken for modernization and re-orientation of the laboratories, augmentation of computer facilities, library modernization, introduction of continuing education cell and establishment of national level research center in selected areas like Geotechnology and Information Technology. The Government of Tripura has also recently applied to AICTE for permission to introduce new degree level coursesTripura Engineering College is a premier college offers various courses in Engineering.The College has regional status in the sense that out of a total intake of the four branches of study, 22 seats are reserved for the candidates from other North-Eastern states and 10 seats are reserved for Government of India nominees. The College has produced more than 3000 engineering graduates since its inception. Most of the ex-students of the college are serving in highly responsible positions in Government, semi-government and private organizations in India and abroad.The College has all basic infrastructural facilities for conducting the undergraduate courses satisfactorily. It has got adequate number of well- qualified and experienced faculty members and technical supporting staff. It has a well stocked library , computer facilities , workshop and laboratories relevant to the courses of study. A list of faculty members attached to various departments are given in Annexure-I and the list of existing laboratories are given in Annexure-II.
