Located in The Bir Bikram Memorial College has started its journey on 19th August, 1969 as Bir Bikram Evening College, affiliated to Calcutta University, with more than 300 male students, in the premises of Maharaja Bir Bikram College,Agartala . The college basically catered to the needs of those students who were not in a position to prosecute their studies in the existing day colleges of the state due to myriad reasons. The teaching- learning hours of the college was 3 p.m. – 8 p.m., hence it was not only a fore-runner in the college education of this nature but an unique one with its mission to stride towards raising the level of higher education., On 26th December, 2002, the college started a new journey shifting its establishment to a new location at College Tilla, in the premises of the erstwhile Tripura University building and was renamed as Bir Bikram Memorial College. At this juncture, the college was converted into a co-educational day college to fulfill the need of the hour. It is a government degree college offering Bachelor’s degree in Honours and Pass categories in Science, Arts and Commerce streams. This institution is one of the largest institutions in Tripura which offers degrees in all three streams., The present college campus is spread over an area of more than 6 acres with lush green fields bordered with exotic varieties of trees and winding lakes haunted by migratory birds in winter, The impetus to the development of the College took place since 2012, when a massive drive for building a new campus with Academic and Administrative blocks was initiated over an area of 9.29 acres with abundant greenery, bordered with exotic varieties of trees and winding lake, an abode of migratory birds during the winter season. Reformation and automation was initiated by the faculty and staff of the College and since then, the college is regularly moving towards expansion.. The government of Tripura has provided adequate support for the development of this college, the college also receives grant in aid from University Grants Commission and RUSA allotment. Steps have been taken to demolish the old , dilapidated building structure and convert the space into a playground for the students of this college., The students’ strength in this college has kept on increasing with the passing of time. From a few hundred in the initial years now the total strength has risen to 3835 and along with this the number of subjects being offered has also increased. The College had started with a few general Humanities and Commerce subjects in 1969, in due course new subjects were added along with the introduction of Honours Course in most of the subjects and Physical Science is the latest addition. The College harbours exclusive pride in offering Defense and Strategic Studies, an Elective optional for those studying Arts Major/ General Course. There is still a demand for Geography, Bio- Science and other such subjects which have been taken up with the appropriate authority., The institution, with its magnificent infrastructure and enthusiastic faculty endeavours for the progress and prosperity of the students by implementing its vision and mission and aspires to make this seat of higher learning fulfill the expectations of the public., Mission and Vision, At present more than 4000 students are continuing their studies in this college in Commerce, Arts and Science streams. It needs a special mentioning hereat that 'Defense Studies' is one of the subjects which is exclusively taught in this college. From the year 2012 the college has introduced Certificate course in kakbarak. Presently, the overall activities of the college is efficiently managed by its principal., The ultimate aim of the college is inclusive education - to impart higher education to all irrespective of caste, creed and gender in calculating highest human values and professionalism., Since its very inception the college has been striving to attain the goal of academic excellence defying obstacles but we have miles to go with the patronage of our well wishers..
