The name of the College Magna has a dual significance. The term Magna is derived from the same term in Latin which means great or greatness.

Every student in Magna should strive for creative and innovative greatness while at college and continue in pursuit of the same, life-long, even after leaving the college.

It is a fundamental duty of every child to honour his / her parents. It consonance with this maxim, the college is named in commemoration of the parents of the founder. The name Magna is a coinage of the first syllable of the names of parents of the founder, Magdelene and Nayagam.Welfare of one's child is foremost in Indian heritage and tradition. At every stage of one's life from infancy to childhood and in the transition from childhood to maturity, parents pay a great price and sacrifice to establish their child on his / her feet.Every student in Magna should appreciate this loving gesture of his / her parents and live up to the hope and trust his parents have placed on him / her. The name of the college should therefore remind each student of the fundamental duty of honouring one's parents.The processing of information to study the relation between theory and performance is represented by the icon of signal-bearing waveforms. The icon of antenna represents the incessant scanning of the expanding horizon of knowledge and the thirsty absorption of updated expertise. The icon of lightning symbolizes the forces of nature which the engineer seeks to understand and strives to harness. A characteristic of engineering is that learning and application proceed hand in hand, each enriching the other, and both contributing to productivity. This is represented here by the icon of a factory. The icon of orbiting electrons alludes to the concept of unceasing activity at the elementary level leading to the formation of one's own characteristics. The gear wheel symbolizes movement - movement of the engineer along the path of professional progress.

The college is sited in a large area and offers all basic infrastructural facilities of a modern campus. It has an adequate fleet of buses to link with all parts of Chennai and outlaying areas.

The unique feature of Magna is the congenial atmosphere provided for learning and teaching. With a relatively experienced faculty, several of whom have completed higher degrees at Anna University and other centers of learning have acquired a quantum jump in the transfer of knowledge and skills to young minds. It is the policy of Magna to support teachers to acquire higher and higher training and research skills to encourage continuous increase in the academic performance of the college.
Magna also lays a high emphasis in the development of its students and faculty mature as better human beings. In this regard, Youth Red Cross (YRC), National Service Scheme (NSS), Red Ribbon Club (RRC) and other neighborhood oriented service schemes are receiving enthusiastic and voluntary support from the students and staff. Student Discipline at Magna is not enforced from the top but generated within it. I assure the parents that their wards will grow professionally and as a human being under our care.
