Topics You Will Study in Class 10 RD Sharma

RD Sharma Class 11 Textbooks is based on the latest syllabus prescribed by the CBSE. Illustratie Examples and Exercises given at the end of every section/sub-section in each chapter have been arranged in the increasing order of difficulty level and have been categorized into two levels, namely, Level – 1 and Level – 2. At the end of each chapter, an exercise consisting of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Summary of quick revision of concepts and formulae have been given.

Chapter 1: Real Numbers

This chapter is basically in continuation with the concept of the rationals number and irrational numbers that students came across in Class 9th. In this chapter, the students will learn about the properties of positive integers. Another concept which the students will come across is Euclid’s Division Lemma. The students will get to know more about rational numbers and irrational numbers. Also, the students will study about the decimal expansion of real numbers in this chapter.

Chapter 2: Polynomials

In this chapter, the students will learn about the different types of Polynomials and their properties. In simple words, polynomials are a type of algebraic expression. It constitutes variables as well as coefficients. In this chapter, the students learn about different types of Polynomials such as Monomial, Binomial, Trinomial and Polynomials. Also, from this chapter, the students will get to know about how polynomials can perform other mathematical functions like addition, subtraction, multiplication etc.

Chapter 3 – Pairs of Linear Equations in Two Variables

The third chapter comprises questions based on linear equations in two variables, solutions to systems of linear equations in two variables, algebraic and graphical techniques of solving systems of linear equations in two variables, and applications of these methods. Students can learn problem-solving techniques, including the elimination approach, cross-multiplication, and substitution. When students explore these questions, they will learn effective strategies and approaches for solving problems involving a pair of linear equations.

Chapter 4: Triangles

This chapter will discuss the different concepts of triangle such as its angles, different properties of triangles, different types of triangles. In this chapter, the students will learn about the famous theorem, Pythagoras Theorem. The students will also learn about different calculations that can be solved using the properties of tiangles

Chapter 5: Trigonometric Ratios

In this chapter, there is only one exercise on Trigonometric Ratios and the students will get to know about various concepts such as trigonometric ratios of an acute angle of a right triangle, quotient relation of T-ratios and squared relation. From this chapter, the students will learn about how missing angles of right triangles are found using the trigonometric ratios. The students will get to know what is meant by sin, cos, tan, codec etc.

Chapter 6: Trigonometric Identities

The students from this chapter will learn about different Trigonometric Identities. The students will learn about 3 basic identities of trigonometry.

Chapter 7: Statistics

In this chapter, the students shall learn how to represent data pictorially and analyze it using different bar graphs, pie-charts, histograms etc. Moreover, in this chapter, the students will get to know how ungrouped data is studied using various methods such as mean, median and mode. Furthermore, the students will study representing grouped data using these 3 central measuring tendencies like mean, mode and media.

Chapter 8: Quadratic Equations

The students will learn about various applications of quadratic equations as we come across the quadratic equations in our daily lives. The students will also learn about the nature of roots, how to solve quadratic equations using factorization and by completing the square.

Chapter 9: Arithmetic Progressions

In this chapter, the students will learn about how to study different patterns. The students will get to know how a number is obtained when a fixed number is added or multiplied with a fixed number. Basically, an Arithmetic Progression is when successive numbers are obtained by adding the fixed numbers to the preceding number. The students will also learn about the ‘Nth’ term and how they can calculate the sum of consecutive N terms.

Chapter 10: Circles

In this chapter, the students will learn about the study of circles which deals with the existence of tangents to a circle and its properties. A circle is a closed shape figure in which all the points lying on the surface of the circle joining its center are equal. This is called the Radius of the circle. The chapter will deal with the concepts like a tangent, tangents to a circle, the number of tangents from a point to a circle.

Chapter 11: Construction

The students will study different ways to construct various shapes by bisecting an angle, how to draw a perpendicular bisector of a line segment, construction of a triangle etc in this chapter. More new concepts like division of line segment and construction of circle will be later explained in this chapter. Also, this chapter helps the students to analyze the steps required for the construction of a particular figure.

Chapter 12: Some Applications of Trigonometry

This chapter is an elaboration on how concepts of trigonometry are used in our daily lives. In this chapter, the students will learn how trigonometry is used in finding the heights and distances of various objects. Also, the students will learn about how to find the height of a building if the angle of elevation and distance of the building is provided. To attempt the questions from this chapter, the students will have to revise the previously studied trigonometric identities.

Chapter 13: Probability

From this chapter, the students will get to know about the reasons of outcomes and how they are estimated. Probability in simple terms, refers to the total possible outcomes that one gets. This chapter explains how to reach outcomes by using properly structured pictorial representations. In this chapter, the students will get to know about the experiments that are performed to attain a particular outcome.

Chapter 14: Coordinate Geometry

This chapter will deal with how distance can be calculated between two points whose coordinates are given. Students will also learn about how the area of a triangle is calculated formed by three given points. This chapter specifies the distance formula, section formula, area of triangle. The students will study the relationship between digits and geometrical shapes.

Here, the students will learn about how to calculate the perimeter and areas of the circle. The students will also learn about how areas of two special parts of the circular region is calculated also known as segment and sector. Major topics that are covered in this chapter are segment of a circle, areas of the combination of the plane figures.

Chapter 16: Surface Area and Volumes

From this chapter, the students will get to know about how to calculate surface areas and volumes of different figures like cube, cuboid, square, rectangle. Major elements of this chapter are volume of a combination of solids, conversion of solids from one shape to another. Also, from this chapter, the students will grasp different mathematical formulas to solve the geometry questions.
