Department of Urdu

The Department of Urdu was a major Department in pre-partition time of the then "University of Punjab Lahore", which was founded in 1882. Department of Urdu, was introduced in Panjab University, Chandigarh, in 1976. The Department of Urdu, became a post-graduate Department, in 1991 with the regular teaching of M.A. in Urdu and research leading to Ph.D., with the appointment of Prof. M. Shakeel Khan, who joined the Department just after completing the "Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellow Programme from London in 1990.

Eligibility :

Advanced Diploma Course in Urdu :
=> I) The duration of the course shall be one academic year.II) The examination shall be held once a year, ordinarily in the month of May or no such dates as may be fixed by the Syndicate.III) A person who have passed one of the following examinations shall be eligible to join this course:-a) Diploma course in Urdu from Panjab University;b) Intermediate or B.A.-1 examination with Urdu as an elective subject from this University.c) Any other examination recognized by the Panjab University as equivalent to (a) or (b).IV) The classes for this course are held in the evening.V) The medium of examination shall be Urdu. The question papers shall be set in Urdu.

Certificate Course in Persian :
=> I) The duration of the course shall be one academic year.II) The examination shall be held once a year, ordinarily in the month of May or on such dates as may be fixed by the Syndicate.III) A person who has passed one of the following examination shall be eligible to join this course. a) The Higher Secondary examination of the Panjab University before 1970 or the Board of School Education of Punjab/Haryana or of the Central Board of Secondary Education. Delhi b) (students of Union Territory of Chandigarh only);The pre-University examination of the Panjab University.c) An examination of another University/Board recognized by the Synidicate as equivalent to (a) or (b).IV) The classes for this course are held in the evening.V) The medium of examination shall be Persian. The question papers shall be set in Persian.

Certificate Course in Urdu :
=> I) The duration of the course shall be one academic year.II) The examination shall be held once a year, ordinarily in the month of May or on such dates as may be fixed by the syndicate.a) The Higher Secondary examination of Panjab University before 1970 or of the Board of School Education of Punjab/Haryana or of the Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi (Students of Union Territory of Chandigarh only);b) The pre-University examination of Panjab University?a) 10+1 examination of Punjab School Education Board or any other recognized Board/University;b) An examination of another University/Board recognized by the Syndicate as equivalent to (a) or (b) or (c).c) The classes for this course are held in the evening.d) The medium of ex.

Diploma course in Persian :
=> Admission is open to the candidates who have passes:a) Certificate Course in Persian form Panjab University;b) Persian in the Matric Examination of Panab University;c) Examination of other University/Board recognized by the Syndicate as equivalent to (a) or (b).

Diploma Course in Urdu :
=> I) The duration of the course shall be one academic year.II) To examination shall be held once a year, ordinarily in the month of May or no such dates as my be fixed by the Syndicate.A person who has passed one of the following examinations shall be eligible to join this course:-a) Certificate Course in Urdu from Panjab University.b) Urdu in the Matric examination of Panjab university or Adib examination of Panjab University.e) An examination of another University/Board recognized by the Syndicate as equivalent to (a) or (b).f) The classes for this course are held in the evening.g) The medium of examination shall be Urdu. The question papers shall be set in Urdu.

M.A. (Urdu) :
=> The M.A. course is of two year? s duration. Admission to this course is open to the candidates who has passed.(a) Graduation in any subject with 50 marks.Or(b) B.A. with Urdu as an elective subject with atleast 45% marks in the subject of Urdu.Or(c) B.A. and Advanced Diploma Course in Urdu with atleast 45% marks.
