Post-Graduate Department Of Zoology

The Post-Graduate Department of Zoology was established during 2004 with six faculty members (one professor, two readers and three lecturers). The research areas of the faculty include Taxonomy, Wildlife Biology, Physiology and Biochemistry, Remote Sensing & GIS, Molecular Biology, Herpetology and Environmental Biology. The department has HPLC, Electrophoresis, CO2 Incubator, ELISA Reader, Gel Doc, PCR, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, UV-VIS Double Beam Spectrophotometer, Spectrofluorimeter, Tissue Culture facility for advanced research. The major focus of the department in teaching and research includes M.Sc. (25 seats), M.Phil. (10 seats) and Ph. D. programmes (as per the regulation). All the faculty are engaged in research with funding from MoEF; DST, Govt. of Orissa and India; UGC; DBT and Govt. of Orissa, Forest Dept. During 2009, the department got DST, Govt. of India grant under FIST Program. The SERC School in Herpetology of the DST, Govt. of India is also headed by Prof. S.K. Dutta as the Director of the School. The major achievements in research of the faculty include publications in “Nature” and “Science”.
