About Phek Government College, Phek

Phek College was the brainchild of the people of Phek under the leadership of then Deputy Commissioner of Phek, Shri Lalhuma, lAS and Shri Vejoi Vero, the then Minister of State, Nagaland respectively. During the annual meeting on 28th July, 1981, which was presided over by the then Deputy Commissioner, Phek Shri Lalhuma, the public, government officials and parents unanimously resolved to establish a College in Phek town, which was christined as 'PHEK COLLEGE'.

With the vision to provide higher education to students in this far flung and remote region of the Country bordering Myanmar, Phek College was established on 28th July 1981.

The College is NAAC accredited with B Grade in 2019 First cycle.

The College became affiliated to the North Eastern Hill University NEHU in 1983, and presently affiliated to Nagaland University.

Initially, the College offered courses only up to the Pre-University level and Degree courses were introduced only in 1994 with B.A. General Course and Honours courses in Political Science, Education and History. Phek College was taken over by the Government of Nagaland on 1st February 1990. The College was shifted to the new campus on 29th October 2002. The nomenclature of the College was changed from ‘Phek College’ to ‘Phek Government College’ in September 2004. Science stream was introduced at Higher Secondary level in 2005. The College started offering B. Sc. Honours and B.A. Honours courses in English and Economics from July 2013. Complete detachment of Higher Secondary classes Arts & Science from the College was completed in 2015.
