    Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, established in 1961 with science education in higher secondary and under graduate levels, has grown at a healthy rate and is now recognised as one of the State's finest colleges. Now, 57 years after its founding, and an enviable Grade A accreditation in 2011 (1st cycle) and 2017 (2nd cycle) by the UGC National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Kohima Science College has become Nagaland's only autonomous Government P.G. College. The college offers 11 undergraduate programmes in a broad spectrum of science subjects and English literature. It offers master’s programme in Anthropology, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics and Zoology. The college also has three research laboratories. The college aspires to engage in not only improving the standards of science education in the State but also generate knowledge that is value-based. Kohima Science College has been successively affiliated to Guwahati University, North-Eastern Hill University and Nagaland University.

    MISSION STATEMENT
    Kohima Science College, Jotsoma (KSCJ) started in the year 1961 with a mission to encourage and impart science education. It is a premier college in the state of Nagaland, where science education occupies the central focus. With the changing times, the college has charted its own mission to respond to the emerging needs of the contemporary society by expanding its focal area without losing its focus on science education as the central mission. We are continuously striving to fulfil our mission in the following identified areas:

    This is a three-year programme of the Nagaland University which leads to the degree of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.). A student has the option of taking his/her BSc. Degree either with Honours or as a General candidate. Currently the college offers Honours in 9 (Nine) subjects. The B.Sc. programme is a good launching pad for such students who wish to take an M.Sc. and/or a PhD. degree. This course is also ideally suited for students who want to take up career opportunities in civil service and administration.

    Prescribed application from along with the Prospectus and an Entrance Test sample question paper can be obtained form the college for Rs. 50/-. The completed application must contain the following :

    One attested photocopy of Admit Card and Mark Sheet of HSSLC or equivalent examination.
    Two duly self-attested, passport size photographs (not later than 6 months)
    Gap certificate for a candidate who is applying after a gap of one year or more after passing the last examination from the institution last attended or from a Gazetted Officer personally known to him/her in the manner of the given format (See Annexure 1 in the prospectus).

    Selection

    The selection of students is based on the Entrance Test, the syllabus for which is the same as that of the Joint Entrance Examination for Engineering/Medical & Allied Courses conducted by the NBSE. The selection of students is done strictly on merit and is monitored by an independent Admission Committee. In order to ensure fairness the papers are coded and evaluation is centralized. Canvassing in any form will disqualify a candidate. The decision of the Admission Committee is final and binding.

    Selection

    The selection of students is based on the Entrance Test, the syllabus for which is the same as that of the Joint Entrance Examination for Engineering/Medical & Allied Courses conducted by the NBSE. The selection of students is done strictly on merit and is monitored by an independent Admission Committee. In order to ensure fairness the papers are coded and evaluation is centralized. Canvassing in any form will disqualify a candidate. The decision of the Admission Committee is final and binding.
    Entrance Test shall be held in 2 (two) streams : Biology and Mathematics. A student may take the Test in one stream only. Separate merit list shall be released for each stream. List of selected candidates and candidates in the waiting list will be displayed in the college Notice Board. Students selected for admission shall be admitted strictly in accordance to the merit list. They will be eligible to exercise option from the combinations given above subject to availability of seats.

    Admission

    At the time of admission a candidate must produce the following documents in original of the last qualifying examination:

    Mark sheet (The mark sheet shall be retained by the college for 6 months as per Govt. order)
    Admit Card
    Passed Certificate
    Migration Certificate (for a candidate from another Board) for registration into Nagaland University.

    N.B. If a candidate fails to get admitted on the specified date/s and time his/her selection is forfeited.

    Bachelor of Science (BSc Physics)

    B.Sc Physics

    This is a three-year programme of the Nagaland University which leads to the degree of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.). A student has the option of taking his/her BSc. Degree either with Honours or as a General candidate. Currently the college offers Honours in 9 (Nine) subjects. The B.Sc. programme is a good launching pad for such students who wish to take an M.Sc. and/or a PhD. degree. This course is also ideally suited for students who want to take up career opportunities in civil service and administration.

    Anyone of the following may be opted. For an Honours student one of the elective subjects, except Computer Science, will be the Honours (main) subject.

    Note:

    For Botany/Zoology Honours, Chemistry must be an elective subject.
    For Chemistry Honours, Mathematics and Physics must be elective subjects.
    Except in Mathematics and Statistics, the number of seats for Honours shall not exceed 20.

    Eligibility

    12th Passed or equivalent from a recognized Board with a minimum of :

    45% in the subject in which one desires to offer Honours at the Higher Secondary or equivalent level.
    45% in Biology for Honours in Botany or Zoology at the Higher Secondary or equivalent level.
    45% in the aggregate to offer Honours in a subject not available at the +2 or equivalent level.

    Application

    Prescribed application from along with the Prospectus and an Entrance Test sample question paper can be obtained form the college for Rs. 50/-. The completed application must contain the following :

    One attested photocopy of Admit Card and Mark Sheet of HSSLC or equivalent examination.
    Two duly self-attested, passport size photographs (not later than 6 months)
