Located in Dimapur College was started at the initiative of some prominent citizens of the town to provide an opportunity for higher studies to those who could not afford to go outside Dimapur/ Nagaland. It was established in the year 1966 and was affiliated to Guwahati University, Guwahati, upto Degree Pass Course in Arts and Commerce., The College was under the North Eastern Hill University NEHU Shillong, from 1974 to 1993. It is now affiliated to the Nagaland University, which was established in July 1994., The College was taken over by the Government of Nagaland on 1st of February 1989 and named as Dimapur Govt. College., Dimapur Government College, a co-educational institute established on 25th July 1966 as Dimapur College by few concerned citizens is completing its five long decades of imparting Higher Education.A humble beginning with an enrollment of 83 Arts students and 7 faculty members, the College is today proud to have 987 students, 50 faculty members and 55 non-teachings staff members with Arts, Commerce, and Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management programmes., The journey of the college has faced many ups and downs, but with the active cooperation of Students, Teachers, Non-teaching staff, Parents, Alumni and the community progressed steadily over the years., The College was taken over by the Government of Nagaland on 1st February 1989and eventually renamed as Dimapur Government College. It is affiliated to Nagaland University since 1994, prior to which it was under Guahati University and North-Eastern Hill University.
