Department of Science and Humanities

The Department of Science and Humanities provides Engineering students with a well-rounded educational experience and strives to integrate the students’ concentration in Science and Humanities with their core Engineering subjects and to insure prerequisites are met within their technical discipline. The study of Science and Humanities is a capstone experience bringing together the knowledge and insights that students need to acquire throughout their engineering curricula.

Infrastructure :

Chemistry lab : The students gain knowledge and skills regarding important concepts and principles of chemistry which is relevant to the context and practical applications in Engineering and Technology. Physics lab : Engineering Physics program will apply their strong problem solving skills as physicists along with an understanding of the approach, methods, and requirements of engineering and engineering design for a successful career in advancing technology. Its engineering science and design components prepare students to work as professional engineers. Engineering Physics program will use their strong skills in problem solving, research experience and knowledge in physics and engineering as successful graduate students and researchers in highly ranked graduate programs

=> Orientation Programme was conducted on 17.6.2009. The chief guest was Dr.R.Balasubramanian, Dean of Academics, PPG Institute of Technology, Coimbatore. => FDP on MATLAB was conducted on 22.12.2009. The chief guest were Dr. P. Palaniswamy, Professor, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore – 641 105 and Dr. S. Sudhakar, Professor, Dr. Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology, Pollachi – 642 003. => Guest Lecture was given on “Sustainable Water Resource Management and Climatic Changes” on 12.1.2010 by Prof. Rangasamy, TNAU, Coimbatore. => Guest Lecture was given on “Nano Science” on 20.1.2010 by Prof. Rajini, Amrita University, Coimbatore 641 105. => Guest Lecture was given on “Multiple Integrals and Laplace Transforms” on 21.1.2010 by Dr.S. Ponnusamy, Professor, IIT, Chennai – 36. => Guest Lecture was given on “Flow Measurements” on 22.1.2011 by Mr. R. Mascomani, Deputy Director, Fluid Control Research Institute, Palakad, Kerala – 678 623. => Guest Lecture was given on “Reading” on 22.1.2010 by Dr. Ramani, PSG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore Science Day -2010 was conducted on 6.3.2010. The chief guest was Dr. N.P. Harihara padmanabahan, Head, Mineral processing Division, Materials Group, Bhabha Atomic Research centre, Hyderabad. The Competitions are Science Exhibition, Paper Presentation, Just a Minute,Quiz and Guess the Personality. => Faculty Development Programme was conducted on 1.7.2010- 6.7.2010. It was inaugurated by Dr. S. Mohan, Director, National Institute of Technical Teachers, Training and Research, Chennai – 600113. (38 – Resource Persons). => Orientation programme was conducted on 28.7.2010. The chief guest was Dr.V.Selladurai M.E., Ph.d.,F.I.E. Principal, Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Coimbatore -14. => Inauguration of Science and Humanities Association was conducted on 7.9.2010. The chief guest was Dr. C. Sylendra Babu, IPS.,Commissioner of Police,Coimbatore City. English Day 2011 was conducted on 15.2.2011. The chief guest was Dr. S. Vasanthakumar, Chancellor, Karpagam University. => Science Day -2011 was conducted on 23.2.2011. The chief guest was Dr. P. Iyamperumal Executive Director, Tamilnadu Science & Technology centre, Chennai-600 025.The competitions are Working Model, Painting Competition, Poster Presentation, Documentary Film – Conservation of natural resources and Books Exhibition. Induction programme was conducted on 14.7.2011. The chief guest was Dr.S.Velumani M.D., Physician, OM Sakthi Hospital, Coimbatore. => Inauguration of Science and Humanities Association was conducted on 27.7.2011. The chief guest was Mr. X. Arul Samy, AGM State Bank of India, Coimbatore. => Science Day -2012 was inaugurated on 28.2.2012. The chief guest was Dr.R.Murugesan, Vice Chancellor, Anna University of Technology, Madhurai, President, ISTE, New Delhi. The valedictory was held on 28.2.2012. The chief guest was Tmt. Hema Karunakaran, I.P.S.,Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, Coimbatore city.The Competitions are Working Model, Poster Presentation, Documentary Film – I Came, I Saw, I Conquered, Replica and Wealth out of Waste. => Faculty Development Programme was conducted on 11.6.2012 & 12.6.2012. The chief guest was Dr. D. Brahadeeswaran, Former Professor and Head, Department of Policy Planning and Educational Research, NITTTR, Chennai.(20 – Resource Persons) => Orientation Programme was conducted on 25.7.2012. The chief guest was ri.G.V.Koorse, Chief Regional Manager, Indian Overseas Bank,Coimbatore. => Science Day -2013 was inaugurated on 26.2.2013. The chief guest was Prof.Dr.G.Govindaraj, Department of Physics, School of physical,Chemical and Applied Sciences, Pondicherry University, Pondicherry. The valedictory was held on 26.2.2013. The chief guest was Dr.C. Joseph Kennedy, Registrar, Karunya University, Coimbatore. The Competitions are Working Model, Poster Presentation, Documentary Film – Forget Me Not, Pencil Sketching, Treasure Island and Organic Products Exhibition. => Orientation Programme was conducted on 29.7.2013. The chief guest was Shri.S.S. Jawahar I.A.S.(Rtd), Former Principal Secretary, Tamilnadu Government,Chennai. => Inauguration of Science and Humanities Association was conducted on 12.9.2013. The chief guest was Dr. B. Selvaraj, Associate Proessor in Psychology, Government Arts College, Coimbatore. => English Club Activities was conducted on 13.9.2013. The chief guest was One Minute Speech, Essay Writing Inauguration of English Club was conducted on 19.9.2013. The chief guest was Dr. Harini Jayaraman, HoD, Department of English, Amrita Viswa Vidya Peetham, Coimbatore.
