The Bir Bikram Memorial College has started its journey on 19th August, 1969 as Bir Bikram Evening College, affiliated to Calcutta University, with more than 300 male students, in the premises of Maharaja Bir Bikram College,Agartala . The college basically catered to the needs of those students who were not in a position to prosecute their studies in the existing day colleges of the state due to myriad reasons. The teaching- learning hours of the college was 3 p.m.

The K. R. College of Arts & Science was established by the benovalent philanthropist Thiru K. Ramasamy, the Chairman of National Educational and Charitable Trust, Kovilpatti. This trust was established in 1984-1985 under the Chairmanship of Thiru K.Ramasamy.The first educational institution originated from the trust was National Engineering College. The Chairman decided to start a self finance College in the style and name of K.R.College of Arts & Science (Co-Education).

Pope's College of Sawyerpuram is a revival in 1962 of one of the oldest colleges in South India, which functioned as far back as in 1880. It is one of the two aided colleges in the management of the Thoothukudi - Nazareth Diocese of the Church of South India and is affiliated to the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University.

Thiruvalluvar Government Arts College, Rasipuram is situated in a rural area, which has been providing quality education since 1968. The college was started in the academic year 1968-1969, with five pre-university courses. Within one year it was upgraded with degree classes in order to provide education to the students of the nearby villages who were financially backward. Local people were generous enough to donate liberally to the establishment of the college.

Loganatha Narayasamy Government College was first started in Chengallpattu M.G.R District. Two great industrialists Thiru. Loganathan Mudalliyar and Thiru. T. S. Narayasamy jointly donated Rs five lakhs initially to start the college in the year of 1965. Along with them, the Government of TamilNadu stretched their helping hands by donating the buildings worth of Rs three lacks in the year of 1965.
