Synod College, Shillong is a Co-educational Institution run by the Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian Synod Sepngi. It was founded in the year 1965 (Registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860: No. SR/SC-6/75 of 1975) with the aim of imparting higher education to the youths of the State in particular, the region and the country in general. Over the years, it has grown and attained high academic standards, making it one of the well-known Institutions in the region.

Run by the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions or RNDM (Religieux Notre Dame des Missions), an international religious congregation, Saint Mary’s College, Shillong, a Catholic Church Institution of higher learning was established in 1937. Sankardev College was established in 1962 and was affiliated to the Guwahati University and then to the North Eastern Hill University from 1973. Teaching is done both in Arts and Science Streams upto Honours level Classes for certificate Courses in Khasi Traditional Music and Human Rights are also conducted.
Lady Keane College was the first Girls` college not only in Shillong but also in the entire North Eastern Region. Earlier, girls seeking college education faced a number of difficulties because they had to leave home to pursue further studies. For this purpose visionaries came together and initiated the process of starting a women’s college in Shillong.
St. Dominic College is a co-educational college, established in the year 1995. The college has a capacity of 900 student, providing well-equipped infrastructure like auditorium, computer room, common room etc and facilities to the student from hostel to medical facilities.
