      About Lady Keane College LKC, Shillong

      Lady Keane College was the first Girls` college not only in Shillong but also in the entire North Eastern Region. Earlier, girls seeking college education faced a number of difficulties because they had to leave home to pursue further studies. For this purpose visionaries came together and initiated the process of starting a women’s college in Shillong. The then Governor of Assam, Sir Micheal Keane, was approached and he took up the proposal with enthusiasm and determination and negotiated with the Defence Department of India whereby a plot of land was handed over for the proposed institution.
