IIT Kanpur is set to release the JEE Advanced 2026 cutoff marks on the official website. The cutoff for JEE Advanced represents the minimum marks required by candidates to qualify for JEE Advanced 2026. These cutoff marks, or qualifying marks, will vary based on different categories. Additionally, the official authority will release the cutoff marks necessary for inclusion in the rank lists.
As of today, March 6, 2026, the official cutoffs for 2026 will only be announced by IIT Roorkee on June 1, 2026, along with the results. However, based on the official 2026 information brochure and historical trends, here is what you need to know:
JEE Advanced Cut Off 2026
JEE Advanced Cut Off 2026ย โย Will be announced
1. Qualifying Cutoff (Minimum Marks to get a Rank)
To be included in the Common Rank List (CRL) or any category rank list, you must satisfy two conditions simultaneously: a minimum percentage in each subject (Physics, Chemistry, Maths) and a minimum aggregate percentage.
Expected 2026 Qualifying Criteria: | Rank List | Min. % per Subject | Min. Aggregate % | | :— | :—: | :—: | | Common Rank List (CRL) | 10.0% | 35.0% | | GEN-EWS / OBC-NCL | 9.0% | 31.5% | | SC / ST / PwD | 5.0% | 17.5% | | Preparatory Course | 2.5% | 8.75% |
Note: If the paper is exceptionally difficult, IIT Roorkee has the authority to lower these percentages to ensure enough candidates are qualified (as happened in 2025 where CRL aggregate was lowered to ~20%).
2. Admission Cutoff (Opening & Closing Ranks)
Simply qualifying for a rank does not guarantee a seat in an IIT. Admission is based on the “Closing Rank” for specific branches during JoSAA counseling.
2025 Closing Ranks for Top 3 IITs (General Category – Round 6): | IIT Institute | Computer Science (CSE) | Electrical Eng. (EE) | Mechanical Eng. (ME) | | :— | :—: | :—: | :—: | | IIT Bombay | 66 | 481 | 1500 | | IIT Delhi | 126 | 582 | 1850 | | IIT Madras | 171 | 650 | 2600 |
3. JEE Main 2026 Cutoff (Eligibility for Advanced)
Before you even sit for JEE Advanced, you must clear the JEE Main qualifying percentile. For 2026, the expected percentiles to be among the top 2,50,000 candidates are:
- General (UR): 93.5 โ 95.0 percentile
- GEN-EWS: 80.5 โ 82.5 percentile
- OBC-NCL: 79.5 โ 81.5 percentile
- SC: 60.5 โ 63.5 percentile
- ST: 47.5 โ 50.5 percentile
๐ Key Factors Affecting 2026 Cutoff
- Difficulty Level: If Paper 1 and Paper 2 are tougher than 2025, the marks required for a high rank will drop.
- Number of Aspirants: More students appearing for JEE Main 2026 increases the competition for the top 2.5 lakh slots.
- Seat Matrix: Any increase in seats across the 23 IITs will slightly relax the closing ranks.
Factors Determining JEE Advanced Cut Off 2026
The cut-off for JEE Advanced shall be determined after considering the following factors:
- The number of students who appeared for the exam
- No. of seats
- Performance of the students in the exam
- Previous years cut offs
- Difficulty level of the exam
