Department of Plant Physiology under the Faculty of Agriculture was created after quadripartitioning of the erstwhile Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding in 1999. Since its inception, this Department is catering the academic courses and research activities on basic and applied aspects of Crop Physiology.
This includes physiological traits aimed at better productivity, yield improvement through application of micronutrient and growth regulators, physiology of flowering, crop adaptation to varied environmental conditions, crop nutrition, improvement and maintenance of seed quality, plant cell tissue and organ culture along with molecular characterization of germplasms and marker assisted selections.
Basic and advanced courses of Plant Physiology are offered by this Department for Under-graduate and Post-graduate students both for the faculties of Agriculture and Horticulture students. At present the Department admits six students every year in M.Sc. courses. So far, ten students have obtained Ph.D. degree from this Department. Many of the students obtaining M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree from this Department have settled in various scientific Institutes, Government Organizations and reputed companies.
