Located in GITAM Institute of Technology (GIT) formerly known as College of Engineering was established in the year 1980 in Visakhapatnam with four UG courses in Civil Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Production & Industrial Engineering. Responding to the changing technological scenario, the college started other B.Tech courses in Electronics & Communications Engineering in 1981, Computer Science & Engineering in 1986, Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering in 1995, Information Technology in 2000 and Biotechnology in 2002. PG courses such as M.Tech in Computer Science & Technology, CAD / CAM and Structural Engineering & Natural Disaster Management courses were added over the years. Several departments in the college made pioneering beginnings and significant contributions since their inception., In recognition of the high standards maintained by GIT, autonomous status accorded in year 2003 which gave sufficient experience to it in organizing admissions, development of curriculum, conducting examinations and effectively administering the courses. All this driven GIT to emerge as one of the leading institutions in professional education in the country., At present, GIT offers nine undergraduate programmes and 13 postgraduate programmes in various Engineering disciplines and two evening M.Tech programmes in Computer Science & Technology and VLSI Design. It also offers Ph.D programmes in almost all the Engineering disciplines. The admission process into various UG & PG programmes is through common Online Entrance Test viz., GITAM Admission Test (GAT)., With the compliment of highly qualified teachers and skilled technical staff, state-of-the-art laboratories, library facilities, GIT got global recognition. Many faculty members have made significant academic contributions both at the National and International levels. GIT equips its students not only with the technical knowledge to enable them to meet the challenges of global standards but also integrates value education, environmental studies and communication skills into its curriculum to mould the students as responsible citizens., The students graduated from GIT are among the preferred employees by many top rated industries. As a result, the Alumni occupy prominent positions in prestigious institutions and organizations all over the world and some of them are highly successful entrepreneurs. In the year 2006-07, the college has succeeded in getting placements for 95% of employable candidates and in 2007-08, it was 91%. Even in the year 2008-09, the institute has succeeded in getting placements to nearly two-thirds of employable candidates., GITAM Institute of Technology will not rest but continue its relentless pursuit of excellence in the field of education with the help of supportive management and dedicated faculty and staff., College of Engineering, GITAM has successfully completed its first phase of development. All conventional specialization's have been started and relevant infra structural facilities have been provided. The planning of the technical programs is given utmost care and as such College of Engineering has stood the test of time and occupied significant position in private engineering colleges. It is no wonder that qualified students ask for first line executive positions in industry and also admission into the post-graduate courses on priority basis., Having fulfilled the objectives laid by the college administration to achieve total quality management, the second phase of development is envisaged. It has been thought befitting to start post-graduate courses which are in great demand. Technical education becomes fruitful and more meaningful when the college has been able to interact with industry. Besides enhancing the capabilities of the students, provisions were provided so that computer aided design in all branches of Engineering becomes a part of their academic activity.
