A panel appointed by University Grants Commission (UGC) has recommended 10-year term for principal of colleges. Presently college principals have 5 year term. Minister of State for Human Resource Development (HRD) Shashi Tharoor informed that a committee, appointed by UGC has recommended 10 years as term for appointment of college principal. While recruiting a principal the total experience required will be reduced to ten from fifteen years.

The council for the Indian School Certificate Examination which runs around 2000 schools (CISCE) across the country has decided to reduce the examination fees by over 50 percent. Its a good news for the student appearing for class X and XII in march 2013 Jose Aikara the chairman of CISCE said "We have decided to reduce examination fees from Rs 2100 to Rs 1000 this time"

The Sikkim Human Rights Commission has recommended the Executive Council to revoke its order on the basis of lack of evidence against sacked teachers as the EC had earlier terminated the Assistant Professors Rajendra Prasad, Manoranjan Mishra, Shailendra Mishra and Tapas Bain in the University. It also directed by the commission to VC (Vice Chancellor) to pay compensation out of his own fund and to issue them a experience certificate. Assistant professors Rajendra Prasad and Manoranjan Mishra were terminated from the service as they protested against the unfair practice.

Tamil Nadu government strongly protested to the move to conduct an All India Entrance Test for admission to UG/PG (Under graduate/Post graduate) courses in medical colleges. Tamil Nadu wants that it should be exempted from the test and allow to continue with its existing system for admission to Under-graduate/Post-graduate medical seats. She has strongly protested the unilateral decision of the central government to notify National Board of Examination (NBE) to conduct entrance test for courses in medicine.

The central institution will soon be awarding bachelor’s degree in vocational education from the academic year 2012-2013 - those affiliated to University Grant Commission (UGU). Great relief for Girl students in Uttar Pradesh school as State Government has directed all government and government-aided schools to weave off the tuition fees of girl student of all sections of society. This rule will be applicable from current session i.e for the classes starting from July 2nd. The circular also mentioned that only tuition fees has been waived off, other fees like sports, development and science charges will be applicable.

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Tiruchirapalli is setting up its new campus in Chennai. The institute has already acquired space in the city. Admissions will soon start at this center. And classes are likely to be started by August first week. The eligibility of candidates would be three years of work experience in management cadre after graduation along with good academic background.

Kapil Sibal, Union Human Resource and Development Minister, has requested the Deemed Universities to adopt the "common entrance test".

Assam University here has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh’s Jagannath University for conducting joint programmes in the fields of science, arts, business and social studies. The MoU was to encourage long-term academic co-operation between the two universities which would encourage activities in the fields of science, arts, business, social science, law, education, information technology, fine arts and all other fields of mutual interest, he said.

Dr. Somnath Dasgupta will be the new vice-chancellor of Assam University, Silchar. Dasgupta is the director of the National Centre of Experimental Mineralogy and Petrology (NCEMP) under the University of Allahabad. He will be the fifth vice chancellor of Assam University. Dasgupta has also served as Director in the Geological Survey of India, Jadavpur University, Kolkata and in the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata.

In a clear case of revolt against Kapil Sibal's decision to merge IIT Joint Entrance Exam (IIT-JEE) with All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), Indian Institute of (IIT) Kanpur has announced that it will conduct its own entrance exam in 2013. "The recent IIT Council proposal on admissions to IITs is academically and methodically unsound and in violation of the Institutes of Technology Act (1961) and IIT Kanpur Ordinances (Ordinance 3.2 (Admissions)," said the IIT Kanpur committee members.

Union Human Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Kapil Sibal has assured that North East part of India will get its first Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT). Around Rs.128 crore would be invested to set up IIIT in Tripura. Tripura Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty told reporters: "Union Human Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Kapil Sibal informed at a meeting in New Delhi Tuesday that northeast's first IIIT would be set up in Tripura." `
