  • Ten-year term for college principals, suggests UGCA panel appointed by University Grants Commission (UGC) has recommended 10-year term for principal of colleges. Presently college principals have 5 year term. Minister of State for Human Resource Development (HRD) Shashi Tharoor informed that a committee, appointed by UGC has recommended 10 years as term for appointment of college principal. While recruiting a principal the total experience required will be reduced to ten from fifteen years.

  • SHRC Ordered University VC to pay out from his own fundsThe Sikkim Human Rights Commission has recommended the Executive Council to revoke its order on the basis of lack of evidence against sacked teachers as the EC had earlier terminated the Assistant Professors Rajendra Prasad, Manoranjan Mishra, Shailendra Mishra and Tapas Bain in the University. It also directed by the commission to VC (Vice Chancellor) to pay compensation out of his own fund and to issue them a experience certificate. Assistant professors Rajendra Prasad and Manoranjan Mishra were terminated from the service as they protested against the unfair practice.

  • Somnath Dasgupta appointed as new Assam University VCDr. Somnath Dasgupta will be the new vice-chancellor of Assam University, Silchar. Dasgupta is the director of the National Centre of Experimental Mineralogy and Petrology (NCEMP) under the University of Allahabad. He will be the fifth vice chancellor of Assam University. Dasgupta has also served as Director in the Geological Survey of India, Jadavpur University, Kolkata and in the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata.

  • IIT Kanpur to hold its own entrance in 2013In a clear case of revolt against Kapil Sibal's decision to merge IIT Joint Entrance Exam (IIT-JEE) with All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), Indian Institute of (IIT) Kanpur has announced that it will conduct its own entrance exam in 2013. "The recent IIT Council proposal on admissions to IITs is academically and methodically unsound and in violation of the Institutes of Technology Act (1961) and IIT Kanpur Ordinances (Ordinance 3.2 (Admissions)," said the IIT Kanpur committee members.

Around Rs.128 crore would be invested to set up IIIT in Tripura.
