IIIT to come up in Tripura

Union Human Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Kapil Sibal has assured that North East part of India will get its first Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT). Around Rs.128 crore would be invested to set up IIIT in Tripura.

Tripura Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty told reporters: "Union Human Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Kapil Sibal informed at a meeting in New Delhi Tuesday that northeast's first IIIT would be set up in Tripura."

"The HRD ministry has decided to establish 20 more IIITs in the country in the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. In the first phase, five IIITs would be set up in different parts of India, including one in Tripura," Tripura Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty told reporters

    The Union government has approved the proposal to set up 14 new Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT). As per the scheme, 50 to 100 crore of land will be provided free of cost by the concerned state government for setting up the IIITs.     The Central Government will be spending close to Rs 600 cr for training teachers as part of 12th Plan. Forum on Teacher's Challenges for Education for All (EFA) in India and the Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD), Kapil Sibal, called for a system for continuous and comprehensive evaluation of teachers. Kapil Sibal stressed the need to impart training to teachers so that they can provide education to students. According to a recent study the level of teachers in school has been very low and immediate attention from HRD ministry is required to fix this.

    Kapil Sibal, the Human Resource Minister, has assured that children with all kinds of disability will be provided free and compulsory education, either in school or at home, under the Right to Education Act. "Children with all kinds of disability will be protected under the Act," HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said, moving amendments to the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 in the Lok Sabha. Children suffering from all kinds of disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy and mental retardation are covered under Right to Education Act

    HRD Minister Kapil Sibal is going to present bill for bringing few reforms in the higher education sector. Previously the bill was opposed by the opposition and the ruling party. Kapil sibal has planned to call a meeting with the MP's of other political parties to discuss education reforms so that there was no delay in passing of the bill in the parliament and to avoid any opposition.
